Coach Rodgers receives the Les Dorson Lee
District Citizenship Award
At the December 8, 2009 44th Annual Lee District Banquet for
the Lee District Association of Civic Organizations, Coach
Rodgers was presented the Les Dorson Lee District
Citizenship Award. Remarks made during the award
presentation were:
Mike has been a dedicated contributor to the well being
of Lee District for over 25 years, as leader and worker in
social, academic, legislative, environmental and athletic
programs. He has made major contributions to the behalf of
youth and adult athletic programs, but soccer has been his
greatest passion. Many players that he has coached have gone
on to succeed in the college ranks. He was the Director of
Coaching for the Lee Mount Vernon Soccer Club and worked
with local girls soccer teams for 16 years.
Other areas of Leadership include years of participation
with the Lee District Land Use Advisory Committee and with
organizations such as Clean Fairfax. County Parks have
benefited from his work in support of the bond referenda.
Combining recreation with his concern for conservation and
safety, Mike frequently walks the trails in the Huntley
Meadows wetlands and in other Parks.
He has served for years on the Wickford Wellfleet
Citizens Association as a board member and President. He is
a past officer of the Tartan Village Homeowners Association.
Mikes volunteer work with school and league sports,
environmental activities and community associations has
touched the lives of many Lee District residents.
